Feminist Artworks

Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party is one of the most famous feminist artworks ever known. It is located at the Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum. This installation consists of thirty-nine place settings honoring different woman of history. 999 names of other woman were inscribed on the floor below the table. This piece is interesting to me because it takes something as mundane as a table and makes it a statement for feminism.

Image result for three weeks in may

Suzanne Lacy's Three Weeks of May works against violence against woman. This was a three-week performance with one being them marking up the sidewalk where two woman were raped with an outline of a body such like that the police would do for a murder victim. These performances addressed something very serious that many people seem to ignore and place outside of their realm of reality.

M.C. Escher

Image result
Hand with Reflecting Globe by Escher is very interesting to me because it is very detailed and seems abstract even though it isn't and is just the warping by the spherical shape of the globe. He uses contrast to create shapes in the piece and shadows in the hand to make it seem very realistic. This piece is currently at the Cordon Art Baarn and was first printed in 1935.

Image result for stars escher
Stars is another piece by M.C. Escher. This piece is interesting because of the concept of life and death intertwined. The shapes used are very intricately placed to make it seem like there is a complex form popping out of the page. He uses value to create realism in the piece. This is also at Cordon Art Baarn and was made in 1948.
